Alvaro Blancarte

Born in Culiacán, Sinaloa in 1934.
Trained in the workshop of plastic arts at the
University of Sinaloa. He has studied in Spain, England and France.

Founding teacher of the School of Arts and Crafts of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, as well as the plastic arts workshop of the Autonomous University of Baja California in Tecate. Promoter and founder of the Plastic Arts faculty of the Autonomous University of Baja California.


He has had more than 200 exhibitions among them his participation in the National Salon of Plastic Arts of the National Institute of Fine Arts (1980), the Poly forum Cultural Siqueiros, Mexico City (1984), the ART EXPO 85 (New York 1985), San Diego Contemporary Art Exhibition (Yokohama Japan, 1992), InSITE 94 (Tijuana 1994), the Salón Internacional de Estandartes 96, La Casa de México Benito Juárez (Havana Cuba 2000) and the Segunda Bienal de Estandartes (Tijuana 2002), The exhibition Alquimista Matérico, by Maestro Alvaro Blancarte in has been exhibited at the Manuel Felguérez Museum in Zacatecas (2013), at CONARTE in Monterrey and at the Reynosa Cultural Park in the state of Tamaulipas. Among other exhibitions: Ed Ruscha Then & Now, painting's from the 1960s and 2000s (Museum of contemporary Art, La Jolla, CA 2016), Colores y Texturas, Museo Jose Luis Cuevas (Mexico City 2018) to name a few.

Today his work is exhibited in the gallery ARTE HOY in Coyoacán, Mexico City, and in LA CAJA GALERÍA, Tijuana, Baja California. Also, in the facilities of RANCHO LA PUERTA in the city of Tecate, Baja California; in alliance of collaboration with "FUNDACIÓN LA PUERTA" A.C. for its diffusion and help to noble causes.

Among the distinctions that his work has deserved are the first place in painting in the VII Bienal Plástica de Baja California (1989) and third place in painting in the VII Bienal Plástica de Baja California (1989) and third place in painting in the II Bienal del Noroeste (1991); he received the Academic Merit in the artistic area granted by the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in 1996, and was recognized as emeritus creator in the area of Visual Arts, by the Fondo Estatal para la Cultura y las Artes de Baja California (State Fund for Culture and Arts of Baja California) in 2001.

 

His works appear published in the books Artistas Mexicanos by Ignacio Flores 1986, inSITE catalog 94; 30 Artistas de Baja California 1998; Alvaro Blancarte 2009; Hacedores de imágenes by Roberto Rosique 2004, Alquimista Matérico 2009; Desierto Adentro, el Cubo Centro Cultural Tijuana 2014 and Marking the present, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, La Jolla CA, 2016.

 

Tireless promoter for the "Triennial of Tijuana I International pictorial," he did not celebrate this achievement in life but the Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT) recognizes his great contribution to the project and pays posthumous tribute to the Master in this event in October 2021.

Alvaro Blancarte Osuna dies August 22nd, 2021 in the city of Tecate at the age of 87, and his legacy is still alive, receiving posthumous tributes from the National Institute of Fine Arts in coordination with CECUT with "Posthumous Exhibition Alvaro Blancarte Conversatorio" (2022), the Secretary of Culture of Baja California honoring with his name the "International Gallery Alvaro Blancarte" in CEARTE Tecate, Baja California (2021); as well as the exhibition "Blancarte by Blancarte" at the UABC (Tijuana campus) in the "Alvaro Blancarte Art Hall" (2022).

 

The Secretary of Culture of Baja California is working on the process of declaring several murals created by Alvaro Blancarte as Cultural Heritage of the State for their protection.
